ABOUT ME

One of Jan Field’s pet peeves is people who use really old photos on websites and ads. So why is she using a twenty-five year old photo on her own website? Well, first, her husband, the photographer and web designer, likes it. And second, this is the author when she wrote the first draft of ‘Yesterday’s Lies’. Yep, the first draft was written almost thirty years ago.

And then it languished in a closet while she and her husband (the photographer) built their tourism related business. It wasn’t until she was semi-retired that she pulled it out, dusted it off and began rewriting it while she workshopped, took courses, read books, and studied the craft of writing.

Now, five years later, ‘Yesterday’s Lies’ is ready to go out in the world on its own. And will soon be joined by its sister, ‘Silence of the Deep’. More siblings to follow. And the author (see the main page photo) couldn’t be more delighted and grateful for the journey.

Born and raised in Sudbury Ontario, the youngest of eleven children, she obtained an honours degree in English Literature from Laurentian University and expected to go into teaching. A road not taken. Instead, she answered a job posting for a manager of an organization representing Sudbury, Parry Sound, French River, and Manitoulin Island fishing and hunting resorts and tourist accommodation. Warned that the job might not last a year as part of the group was looking to separate, she took the job and seven years later, after learning a deep respect for the fiercely independent tourist operators, along with a little bit about running a northern Ontario tourism operation, she left for the Big Smoke and another job in tourism that did only last a year. But there, she met her partner in life and love, and together they started their own tourism business that lasted for thirty-three years.

And she is delighted and grateful for the journey.
