Yesterday_sLies_COVER.jpg

In the heart of Northern Ontario, the serene beauty of Lonely Lake Lodge hides a chilling secret. When RCMP officer Matt Brennan is called home to deal with a pressing family matter, he expects only a brief absence from his chosen career. Instead, he discovers a bizarre murder scene—a scene macabre enough to rattle even a seasoned cop. But it's not his problem.

Or is it?

When his brother is charged with the murder, Matt shoulders the responsibility of guiding his family in the struggle to clear his brother's name, all the while grappling with the challenges of running his uncle's lodge while it's being sold. And, in the background, he feels relentlessly pulled into a web of long-buried secrets and lies.

Yesterday's Lies is a gripping blend of mystery and a journey of self-discovery, as Matt confronts his own identity and the path he must choose. A journey set amongst the evocative backdrop of the majestic, mysterious and sometimes malevolent terrain of the Georgian Bay region of Northern Ontario.

Dive into a tale where the past and present collide, and the weight of yesterday's lies threatens to unravel the future.

"Just gotta say - AWESOME!
Did a pre-order on this but got a little busied out late, but finally sat down with your book.
It was incredible! Great read!
First thing I always look for is how well the author gets you connected to the characters. Was engaged immediately.
Whole story was great! Could even see 'the great white north', been to a few places just like you described.
Totally got me connected, read it in three sittings!
Can't wait for the next book."

"I thoroughly enjoyed Yesterday's Lies with its vivid descriptions of Northern Ontario, well-developed characters, and the warmth of a large family rooted in a small-town setting, even as the story unfolds around a murder.
What impressed me most about this book though, was the author's talent for constant misdirection: there were multiple suspects and just enough well-timed clues to make me second-guess myself again and again.
Overall, this was a smart, engaging read that held my attention the whole way through. I’m already looking forward to the next installment."

GREAT READ!
"While on vacation in Barbados in mid-February 2026, by chance we sat with a husband and wife from Canada, at Kimono’s Restaurant. While the chef was cooking dinner in front of us, I chatted with the couple and learned she was an author, a mystery writer to be precise. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hrs we spent talking, as she and her husband both were two of the most genuine people I’ve met in some time. I promised her I’d buy her book and give it and her, a shout out!
The first few chapters went by a little slowly but it was necessary to set the stage – then it really picked up and I could not put the book down. A couple of times I thought I had it figured out but then a new twist would throw me for a curve. The descriptive nature of the writing gave me the feeling I was in Canada despite never having traveled up over the border. Having spent 35 years in law enforcement, I loved the way she built up the police characters too.
A job well done – hopefully the next addition will come much more quickly than the first now that she is a pro!
Buy the book – I think you will like it as much as I did.
Pleasure dining with you Jan!"

Matt Brennan’s life is at a crossroads. After inheriting the family fishing lodge, he flies in for a quick trip in order to sell Lonely Lake Lodge, anxious to get back to his job as an RCMP officer in Toronto. But on a remote island in northern Ontario, Matt discovers a dead body in a bizarre setting. This sets off a series of events that involve Matt’s large, close-knit family and forces him to question everything he thinks he knows about his past.

The story, set in the imagined town of La Cloche, surrounded by the White Mountains and pink granite shores of the Canadian Shield, captures the majestic essence of Northern Ontario. Yesterday’s Lies invites you to make yourself at home in the lodge’s great room for a Magic Hour cocktail, then lifts you to dizzying heights over the sparkling blue waters of Georgian Bay.

Jan Field’s first book in the Matt Brennan Mystery series will have you hooked and eager for your next trip up north.
